Purpose and activities: The organization gives fellowships internationally to individuals who possess the innovation and drive to realize social change in education and youth development, health care, environment, human rights, access to technology and economic development.

Ashoka Fellowships: Fellowships are granted to leading social entrepreneurs who demonstrate the following attributes: a fully original idea; creativity; entrepreneurial quality; envisionment of the idea's social impact; and ethical fiber. The application process is rigorous, requiring multiple interviews and an extensive background check. In most cases candidates will be sought out by Ashoka-appointed nominators. Special efforts are made to fund people from communities under-represented in public leadership.
